Animation has been a huge influence in my life. My family immigrated to the United States when I was only 7 years old. My brothers and I didn’t speak nor understood a lot of English. Cartoons taught us as much, if not more, of the English language than the ESL classes that we took at school!
Some of my favorites were the classic Warner Brother’s cartoons. I always marveled at how much more expressions characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck had compared to a lot of the newer cartoons at the time. The classic WB cartoons seem to never repeat or cycle any of their animations the way the Scooby Doo cartoons did. The classic WB cartoons always seem to move their whole body and not just the mouth or arms. I then started to notice that the cartoons that I liked the most were always directed by a small collection of individuals like Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, and Robert McKimson. I loved how they squashed and stretched and exaggerated their characters in the most extreme ways!
